Howard Leight SmartFit Metal-Detectable Reusable Earplugs
Howard Leight SmartFit SDT-30 metal-detectable earplugs provide reusable hearing protection for food processing, pharmaceutical manufacturing and other noise-exposed production areas. Supplied in a box of 100 corded pairs, these blue earplugs combine a premolded, three-flange design with an NRR of 25 dB. They require no foam roll-down before insertion.
Conforming Material Technology responds to body heat to adapt to the ear canal, then returns toward its original shape after removal. The thermoplastic elastomer construction can be washed for repeated use. Fit must still be checked for each wearer; one size does not guarantee an effective seal for everyone.

Detection, Fitting and Care
Validate detectability with your facility’s inspection equipment and operating conditions. Detectable components help locate foreign material but do not guarantee detection or prevent contamination. Confirm that cords are permitted around the equipment being operated.
Follow the manufacturer’s fitting instructions. Hold the stem, gently pull the ear up and back, and insert the flanges as directed. Clean reusable plugs with mild soap and warm water, dry them and store them in a clean case. Replace plugs showing damage, deformation, hardening or contamination that cannot be removed. A storage case is not promised as part of this listing.
Hearing Protection Standards
The manufacturer lists ANSI S3.19-1974 as the attenuation test protocol for NRR 25. This laboratory rating does not mean every wearer receives a 25 dB reduction. Under OSHA 29 CFR 1910.95, employers must evaluate hearing-protector attenuation for the noise environment and provide appropriate fitting and training. Earplugs alone do not establish workplace compliance.
NIOSH recommends individual quantitative fit testing to determine personal attenuation. Select protection using measured exposure, fit results and communication needs. Neither the NRR nor the product’s reusable design guarantees that warning signals will remain audible.

Is SDT-30 the same as every SmartFit model?
No. Specify SDT-30 when ordering the metal-detectable version. Other SmartFit configurations have different cords, packaging or accessories.
Can these earplugs be reused indefinitely?
No. Reuse depends on condition, cleaning and workplace hygiene requirements. Inspect before each use and replace compromised plugs.
