Choosing QD30 or QD1
QD30 is the corded Quiet model; QD1 is the uncorded version. Both have a manufacturer-listed NRR of 26 dB. Select the corded option where site rules permit it, and assess entanglement hazards around rotating or moving machinery. Keep plugs properly inserted throughout hazardous noise exposure, including short tasks.
Cleaning and Replacement
Wash with mild soap and warm water, dry with a clean towel and store in a clean protective container. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions rather than substituting cleaning wipes, solvents or other treatments that could damage the material. Inspect before use and discard plugs that are dirty, damaged, deformed or hardened. Reusable does not mean unlimited service life.
Hearing Protection Standards
The QD30 specification reports NRR 26 under ANSI S3.19-1974. This laboratory rating does not guarantee a 26 dB reduction for every wearer. OSHA 29 CFR 1910.95 requires employers to evaluate attenuation for the noise environment and provide appropriate fitting and training. OSHA 1926.101 addresses construction hearing protection.
NIOSH recommends individual quantitative fit testing to determine personal attenuation. Choose earplugs using noise measurements and fit results. Neither a higher package rating nor a reusable design automatically makes a product the right choice for a particular worker.
