Type R apparel is intended for workers exposed to traffic on public road rights-of-way and roadway temporary traffic-control zones. Class 3 provides more visible material and greater recognition of the wearer’s form than Class 2. Select apparel through a workplace hazard assessment that considers traffic exposure, vehicle speed, lighting, weather, background complexity, worker tasks, and required fit.
Confirm ANSI/ISEA 107-2020 Type R Class 3 on the manufacturer label before use. A conventional sleeveless vest should not be assumed to meet Class 3 solely because it has reflective tape.
