NIOSH Approved Disposable RespiratorsFiltering facepiece respirators form a seal around the nose and mouth and filter particles according to their N-, R-, or P-series approval. They do not protect against gases or vapors.
Disposable Face and Surgical MasksGeneral-use and ASTM-rated masks may provide source control or fluid-barrier performance according to their verified specifications, but loose-fitting masks are not substitutes for required respirators.

When respirators are required for employees, OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 requires an appropriate respiratory-protection program, medical evaluation, training, and fit testing for tight-fitting respirators. Verify NIOSH approval markings and the product’s official approval listing before workplace use.
