North 5500 Half Face Respirator – Economical, Comfortable Respiratory Protection
The Honeywell North 5500 half mask respirator is a reusable elastomeric facepiece for workplace respiratory protection programs. Its wide, contoured sealing area and adjustable straps support individual fit, while the low dead-air-space design helps limit rebreathing of exhaled air. Choose Small, Medium or Large through fit testing. Filters and cartridges are sold separately.

Common Uses & Applications
For assessed respiratory hazards in manufacturing, agriculture, construction, chemical handling and facility maintenance. Select particulate filters for the identified airborne particles or gas/vapor cartridges for the specified chemical exposure. Some tasks require combination protection. Industry or task names alone do not establish suitability.
Choosing Filters and Cartridges
The 5500 facepiece alone does not filter contaminants and has no standalone N95 or P100 rating. Use the North N-Series components listed in the applicable NIOSH approval. Confirm contaminant identity, concentration and filter limitations before ordering. Do not substitute other brands or confuse this model with the newer HM5500 bayonet system.
OSHA Respiratory Protection Requirements
Required use must follow OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134, including a written program, medical evaluation, training and fit testing. In negative-pressure air-purifying use, a properly selected half mask has an assigned protection factor of 10 under an effective respiratory protection program. Substance-specific requirements may impose additional restrictions.
Perform a user seal check every time the mask is donned. Facial hair must not interfere with the seal or valves. Do not use in oxygen-deficient, unknown or immediately dangerous to life or health atmospheres. A half mask does not protect the eyes.
Inspection and Cartridge Replacement
Inspect the facepiece, straps, valves and connectors before use. Clean and store according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Gas/vapor cartridges require an appropriate approved end-of-service-life indicator or a change schedule based on objective information. Do not use odor alone to decide when replacement is due.

FAQ
Is this available only in Large?
No. ASA offers Small, Medium and Large. Select the size that passes the wearer’s fit test.
Are cartridges included?
No. Purchase the approved filters or cartridges required for your exposure separately.
Does the 5500 replace a full-face respirator?
Not automatically. Eye hazards, required protection factor and workplace assessment determine whether a half mask is appropriate.
