Applications

Where the exposure assessment permits N95 protection:

  • Selected non-oil dust handling tasks.
  • Assessed manufacturing and maintenance particulate exposures.
  • Healthcare duties requiring a surgical N95 respirator.
  • Replacement stock for workers fit tested on this model.

Keep the model number on purchasing records so replacement orders match the respirator used during each employee’s most recent fit test.

What the N95 and surgical designations mean

N95 filtration applies to certain solid and liquid aerosols without oil. It does not provide gas or vapor protection. The 95% figure describes filter performance under test conditions; it is not a guarantee of protection for every wearer or exposure.

The surgical designation adds requirements beyond ordinary particulate filtration. Gerson specifies fluid resistance at 160 mm Hg. That rating does not mean the respirator is waterproof, sterile, or a substitute for other required splash protection. The manufacturer identifies this product for single use.

Check fit before stocking a team

The molded double shell helps the cup retain its shape. The adjustable nosepiece and foam cushion support positioning, while the head straps secure the respirator around the head. These features do not establish a universal fit or eliminate fit testing.

Confirm that the wearer passes the required fit test with the Gerson 1730. Perform a user seal check each time it is donned. Facial hair or anything that interferes with the sealing surface can prevent an effective seal.

Compare disposable respirator options when a different shape or protection class is needed. Select alternatives through your respiratory protection program.
