The Howard Leight QM24+ Quiet Muff is a lightweight, passive earmuff with an NRR of 25 dB and a three-position headband. It offers an alternative to earplugs for workers who prefer hearing protection worn over the ears. The adjustable band can sit over the head, behind the head or under the chin to accommodate different work setups.
Soft, replaceable cushions surround each ear, while the adjustable crown strap supports the earmuff in alternative wearing positions. Use the support strap as directed when the band is behind the head or under the chin. A complete cushion seal is essential in every position.

Fit with Hard Hats and Other PPE
Check the earmuff while wearing the actual safety glasses, hard hat, respirator or face shield used for the task. Hair, eyewear temples and straps can interrupt the cushion seal. The adjustable band does not guarantee compatibility with every PPE combination; reassess fit whenever the equipment or wearing position changes.
Dielectric construction does not provide a stated working-voltage rating or replace electrical shock and arc-flash PPE. Select all equipment through the workplace hazard assessment.
Hearing Protection Standards
The manufacturer lists ANSI S3.19-1974 as the U.S. attenuation test protocol. NRR 25 is a laboratory rating, not a guaranteed 25 dB reduction for each wearer. OSHA 29 CFR 1910.95 addresses occupational noise exposure, hearing-protector selection, fitting and training. For construction, OSHA 1926.101 requires hearing protection when noise exposure cannot feasibly be reduced to the specified limits.
NIOSH recommends individual quantitative fit testing to evaluate personal attenuation. Select protection using measured exposure and fit results, and wear it throughout hazardous noise exposure.
Inspection and Cleaning
Inspect earcups and cushions for cracks, leaks or deterioration. Replace damaged components before use. Clean with mild soap and water without immersing the earmuff. Follow the manufacturer’s cushion and foam-insert replacement schedule.

Does this earmuff attach directly to a hard hat?
No. QM24+ uses its own headband. It is an alternative to a cap-mounted earmuff, subject to fit verification.
Can I add its NRR to an earplug’s NRR?
No. Ratings cannot simply be added. Have the hearing conservation program evaluate any dual-protection combination.
Does buying QM24+ make a workplace OSHA compliant?
