Adaptive Eye Protection for Changing Light Conditions
MCR Safety VL2 photochromic safety glasses, model VL220PCPF, combine clear-to-gray lenses with MAX6 anti-fog coating for industrial workers who move between indoor and outdoor areas. The UV-responsive lenses darken in sunlight and gradually lighten when UV exposure decreases. Three-position ratcheting temples and a soft TPR nosepiece allow fit adjustment for construction, manufacturing, maintenance and warehouse operations.
Key Features
- Adaptive tint: Responds to UV exposure.
- MAX6 coating: Helps resist lens fogging.
- Adjustable temples: Three ratchet positions for fit.
- Soft nosepiece: TPR contact surface.
Common Applications
- Construction crews working inside and outside.
- Manufacturing staff moving between buildings and yards.
- Warehouse and loading-area personnel.
- Utility and facility maintenance teams.
Understand the Lens Transition
MCR Safety's published transition data reports approximately 85% to 16% visible light transmission in 30 seconds as the lenses darken. During lightening, transmission reaches approximately 74% after 180 seconds and 84.8% after five minutes. Higher transmission means more visible light passes through the lens.
The return to clear is gradual. Before entering a dim room, operating equipment or beginning a precision task, allow enough time for adequate visibility. These glasses may reduce the need to change eyewear during some tasks, but they should not be selected where immediate clear-lens performance is essential.
Safety Standards and Selection
MCR lists the VL2 series to ANSI/ISEA Z87.1-2025. Confirm the markings on the supplied eyewear and select protection for the actual task. OSHA 29 CFR 1910.133 requires appropriate eye and face protection and side protection where flying objects present a hazard. OSHA does not approve individual eyewear products.
Photochromic tint is not a welding shade. Use specialized protection for welding, chemical splash or other hazards requiring it. Inspect the glasses before use, follow the manufacturer's cleaning instructions and replace damaged eyewear.
FAQ
- Does this model include reading magnification? No. The VL220PCPF is the photochromic option; dual-segment readers are separate VL2 models.
- Does anti-fog coating prevent all fogging? No. MAX6 helps resist fogging, but condensation can still affect visibility. Stop the task if the lenses become obscured.
- Is the frame made from carbon fiber? MCR identifies the frame material as polycarbonate. Carbon fiber describes the appearance of this variant.

I really like these safety glasses. They change tint depending on the light so you dont have to have two pairs of glasses. They are pricey thats why I gave it a 4 star but overall I recommend them. I got them fast and on time.
