Buying Guide: Goatskin and Glove Selection

Goatskin is selected for tactile sensitivity, but leather type alone does not establish protection or service life. Check torch control, filler handling, fingertip fit, and wrist movement with the actual equipment. For rough stock, grinding, heavy spatter, or sustained stick welding, assess whether different construction and documented performance are needed.

ASA describes an unlined glove and a 4-inch cuff; the manufacturer sheet does not specify lining or cuff length. Confirm these details when required. Check cuff overlap with protective sleeves while reaching and bending.

OSHA Welding and Hand Protection

OSHA 29 CFR 1910.252(b)(3) requires appropriate protective clothing for welding, cutting, and brazing hazards. Protection varies with the size, nature, and location of the work.

OSHA 29 CFR 1910.138 requires hand-protection selection based on performance, tasks, conditions, duration, and identified hazards. These are employer requirements, not product approvals.

No numerical cut, puncture, contact-heat, flame, or arc-flash rating is established in the reviewed documentation. Kevlar stitching does not establish whole-glove cut protection. These gloves do not replace electrical insulating gloves.

Commercial Purchasing

Use SKU 8530HF and size Large when ordering replacement stock. ASA supports commercial, government, municipal, and education purchasing with purchase orders, volume pricing, and sourcing assistance for recurring workplace glove requirements.

Care and Manufacturer Documentation

Inspect leather, seams, thumb, and cuffs before use. OSHA 1910.132 prohibits defective or damaged PPE. Follow workplace contamination and replacement procedures.

Wash with warm water and commercial detergent, no hotter than 50°C/122°F. Air-dry or tumble-dry without heat.

FAQ

  • What are goatskin TIG gloves used for? Precision welding, fabrication, and metalworking where the assessed hazards match their capabilities.
  • Can these be used for MIG welding? Evaluate heat, spatter, duration, and required dexterity before selection.
  • Are these suitable for stick welding? Suitability is not established for every task. Sustained heat or heavy spatter may require different protection.
  • Why choose goatskin? Its tactile feel can help with torch, filler, and small-part handling.
  • Are these gloves lined? ASA lists them as unlined; confirm the supplied construction when lining is a purchasing requirement.

This is a nice wearing glove. Fits good and soft but provide nice protection pass the wrist. Its a bit pricey so I only gave it a 4 star. No other complaint about this glove.
