Choose each garment according to the documented workplace hazard and the product’s verified label. Compare flame-resistant construction, arc rating in cal/cm², PPE Category where applicable, flash-fire certification, visibility classification, fabric weight, layering compatibility, fit, and care requirements.
Important: Flame-resistant and arc-rated are not interchangeable terms. Arc-rated clothing is flame resistant, but FR clothing is not automatically arc rated. For electrical work covered by OSHA 29 CFR 1910.269, the employer must assess the hazard and select arc-rated protection appropriate for the estimated incident energy. Verify NFPA 2112, ASTM F1506, NFPA 70E, ANSI/ISEA 107, and other claims on the individual garment rather than applying them to the entire category.
