Follow the eyewear manufacturer's cleaning instructions before applying any pre-moistened wipe. Plastic, glass and polycarbonate lenses can have different surface treatments, and the base material alone does not establish compatibility with a cleaning formula. Check instructions for anti-fog, anti-reflective, mirror or other specialty coatings.
Do not assume that a lens wipe is suitable for respirator windows, electronic displays or optical instruments. Those surfaces may require a specific cleaner. If the equipment instructions prohibit the wipe's ingredients, use the recommended cleaning method instead.
Routine Use and Storage
Follow the packet directions for cleaning and drying. Remove loose abrasive contamination using the eyewear maker's recommended method before wiping, and avoid rubbing grit across the lens. Use a fresh towelette rather than transferring dirt from one surface to another. Store unopened packets in a cool area away from ignition sources, as directed by PIP.
If visibility remains poor after cleaning, inspect the lens for scratches, clouding or damage. Cleaning cannot repair a damaged lens or restore its original protective performance.
Workplace PPE Care
OSHA 29 CFR 1910.132(a) requires necessary protective equipment to be maintained in a sanitary and reliable condition. Section 1910.132(e) prohibits using defective or damaged PPE. Lens cleaning supports routine maintenance, but the wipes do not add an impact rating or make damaged eyewear compliant.
