Type R apparel is intended for workers exposed to traffic on public road rights-of-way and roadway temporary traffic-control zones. Choose the appropriate vest using your workplace hazard assessment, considering traffic exposure, vehicle speed, lighting, weather, background complexity, worker tasks, fit, and the ANSI/ISEA type and class shown on the garment label.
Class 2 is not automatically appropriate for every roadway environment. Higher-risk conditions may require Type R Class 3 apparel. Reflective material alone does not establish ANSI/ISEA compliance, and a vest should not be described as flame resistant or arc rated unless the manufacturer documents that protection.
