Black Reflective Work Shirt
The Portwest S396 Iona Plus short-sleeve shirt combines black polyester knit with contrasting trim and segmented reflective tape. Its moisture-wicking fabric, chest pocket and microphone tabs suit everyday workwear programs where enhanced visibility is wanted. This black version is NON-ANSI. It is not an ANSI Type O Class 1 shirt and must not replace apparel required to meet an ANSI visibility classification.
Key Features
- Heat-applied segmented reflective tape with contrasting material.
- Moisture-wicking polyester fabric.
- Tape-free chest pocket for small essentials or branding.
- Two microphone tabs for clipping a radio microphone.
- Taped neck seam and short sleeves.
Applications
Consider for facility teams, maintenance staff and general workwear where the employer permits non-ANSI clothing. Assess the actual work zone and visibility requirements before selecting it. A warehouse, yard or delivery role does not automatically establish that this shirt provides the required protection.
Enhanced Visibility and ANSI Classification
Reflective trim and fluorescent contrast details do not, by themselves, establish an ANSI garment rating. Portwest explicitly identifies the black S396 as NON-ANSI. When your work specification calls for certified high-visibility apparel, choose a garment bearing the required type and class on its label.
Evaluate the shirt alongside other required clothing and equipment. Keep its reflective areas exposed rather than covering them with accessories. The shirt does not replace site lighting, traffic controls or other measures needed to separate people from moving equipment.
Fit, Pocket and Company Branding
Choose from the sizes currently available in ASA’s selector. Check the fit while reaching, bending and wearing any usual underlayer. The shirt should allow normal movement without pulling across the chest or shoulders. Manufacturer size availability does not guarantee every size is stocked by ASA.
The chest pocket has no reflective tape across it, providing a location for corporate identification. Confirm artwork size, placement and decoration method before production. Avoid obscuring the reflective trim. ASA’s custom safety branding service provides a starting point for arranging company identification.
Care and Inspection
Follow the garment label. Portwest specifies a mild wash process at a maximum of 40°C, line drying, and no bleach, tumble drying, ironing or dry cleaning. Its care guidance lists a maximum of 25 washes. Check the fabric, seams and reflective material regularly; replace a damaged or excessively worn garment sooner. Track washing frequency when issuing uniforms so replacement decisions consider both the care limit and the garment’s condition during inspections.
Review the Portwest S396 datasheet (PDF) for manufacturer details. Compare ASA’s safety shirts when a different construction or documented visibility classification is required.
