The 3M 8293 P100 particulate respirator combines a disposable filtering facepiece with adjustable buckle straps, a foam faceseal and a Cool Flow exhalation valve. Common Uses & Applications
Consider for assessed particulate exposures during sanding, grinding, material handling and industrial maintenance. Selection depends on the contaminant, measured exposure and applicable substance-specific requirements. Oil-containing sprays must not also release vapors requiring separate protection.
What P100 Filtration Means
NIOSH classifies P100 filters as oil-proof, with at least 99.97% filtration efficiency under its test conditions. This rating describes filter performance; it does not mean the wearer receives 99.97% protection regardless of fit. See the NIOSH respirator filter classification guide.
OSHA Selection and Use Requirements
Required workplace use must follow OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134, including a written respiratory protection program, medical evaluation, training and fit testing. Complete a user seal check each time the respirator is worn. Facial hair must not interfere with the seal or valve operation.
Do not use for gases, vapors, asbestos, oxygen-deficient or IDLH atmospheres. Keep exposures within 10 times the applicable exposure limit, or any lower regulatory limit. Do not select this mask for abrasive blasting.
Replacement and Storage
Replace when dirty, damaged or difficult to breathe through. For oil-aerosol use, discard after 40 hours or 30 days of use, whichever occurs first. Earlier replacement may be necessary. Do not wash. Store in original packaging and follow the printed use-by date.

FAQ
Does the 8293 protect against solvent vapors?
No. P100 particulate filtration does not remove gases or vapors. A different respirator configuration must be selected when these hazards are present.
Does P100 eliminate the need for fit testing?
No. OSHA requires fit testing before initial use, when a different tight-fitting facepiece is used and at least annually thereafter. A seal check does not replace a fit test.
