The 3M 6007 Mercury Vapor/Organic Vapor/Acid Gas Cartridge is designed for workers who need respiratory protection against specific gases and vapors in demanding industrial and laboratory environments. This NIOSH-approved cartridge helps provide protection against mercury vapor, chlorine, sulfur dioxide, certain organic vapors, and hydrogen sulfide when properly selected, fitted, and used with compatible 3M half facepiece or full facepiece reusable respirators.
The 3M 6007 cartridge uses a bayonet-style connection that fits a wide range of compatible 3M reusable respirators. This twist-lock design allows for quick cartridge installation and replacement, helping safety managers and workers maintain consistent respirator setup across multiple compatible facepiece models.
The swept-back, low-profile design helps improve the user’s field of vision and balance. This is especially helpful for workers who need to inspect equipment, handle chemicals, read labels, operate tools, or move through tight industrial spaces while wearing respiratory protection. The lightweight design and low breathing resistance help support comfort during extended wear.
Unlike particulate filter cartridges, the 3M 6007 is a gas and vapor cartridge. It does not include P100 particulate filtration. For applications requiring both gas/vapor protection and P100 particulate filtration, users should select the appropriate approved filter combination or consider the 3M 60927 cartridge/filter option, depending on the workplace hazard and respiratory protection program.
Service life must be managed carefully. Newer 3M 6007 cartridges do not use a passive mercury vapor ESLI sensor. Cartridge replacement should be based on the contaminant, exposure level, use time, environmental conditions, OSHA requirements, and the employer’s cartridge change-out schedule. For mercury vapor use, 3M guidance states that the 6007 cartridge may be used up to 50 hours against mercury vapor, while other gases and vapors may require shorter service life depending on exposure conditions.
These cartridges are suitable for professional and occupational use in facilities where properly selected respiratory protection is required, including chemical manufacturing, laboratories, pharmaceutical production, wastewater treatment, industrial maintenance, metal refining, utilities, and other work areas with compatible gas and vapor hazards.
Important Safety Note
Respirator cartridges must be selected based on the specific workplace hazard, contaminant concentration, oxygen level, exposure duration, facepiece type, fit testing, and the employer’s written respiratory protection program. The 3M 6007 is not a particulate filter and does not provide P100 protection by itself. Do not use in atmospheres that are immediately dangerous to life or health. Cartridge service life must be determined using a proper change-out schedule and applicable regulatory guidance. For mercury vapor, follow 3M’s maximum use-time guidance and cartridge replacement requirements.
