FR Base Under Shirt: Flame-Resistant Comfort and Protection
The Bizflame Knit FR Crew Neck is a long-sleeve flame-resistant shirt for use within an assessed protective clothing system. Its 7 oz, 100% cotton interlock knit combines moisture-wicking performance with an ASTM F1959 ATPV of 12 cal/cm². Raglan sleeves support movement, while a chest pocket keeps small essentials accessible.
Wear this FR base under shirt with compatible protective layers selected for the task. The knit construction provides insulation without the bulk of an outer jacket. Contrast stitching finishes the design, and Portwest lists the fabric at UPF 40+ for sun protection.

Verified Standards and Layering
The Portwest FR01 manufacturer datasheet PDF lists ASTM F1959 ATPV 12 cal/cm² and EN ISO 11612 A1+A2, B1, C1, F1. The latter covers specified flame-spread and heat-performance tests. These results do not establish protection against every thermal hazard.
Current manufacturer documentation does not list NFPA 2112 for FR01. Do not select it as an NFPA 2112-certified garment solely from an arc rating. Individual garment ratings cannot be added together; a layered system needs its own substantiated arc rating.
OSHA Requirements and Selection
OSHA 29 CFR 1910.335(a)(1)(i) requires protective equipment appropriate to electrical hazards and exposed body parts. For covered electric-power work, 1910.269(l)(8) addresses arc and flame protection.
The employer’s hazard assessment determines the required clothing system and other PPE. This shirt does not provide electrical insulation against shock or permission to work near live circuits.
Fit and Care
Check the Size Chart tab and current ordering options. Confirm sleeve coverage, shoulder movement and fit beneath required outerwear. Follow the sewn label: Portwest lists washing up to 40°C, no bleach, no tumble drying, line drying and no dry cleaning. Inspect fabric and seams before reuse; remove damaged or contaminated garments according to your workplace program.
FAQ
- Does it carry NFPA 2112 certification? That claim is not listed in current FR01 manufacturer specifications.
- Is the sun rating UPF 50? Portwest currently lists UPF 40+.
- Will layering increase the arc rating? Only testing or appropriate documentation can establish the layered system’s rating.
- Is it fireproof? No. Flame resistance does not eliminate burn hazards.
- Is it guaranteed not to shrink? No such guarantee is established. Follow the garment’s laundering instructions.
- Does it replace an FR jacket or coverall? Not automatically. Required coverage and protection depend on the task and complete PPE system.
