Plan PPE for Refrigerated Warehouses, Freezers and Cold-Chain Operations
Cold storage PPE should be selected around the temperature zone, exposure time, activity level, moisture, visibility needs, and hazards created by the work itself. Build a cold-work system from insulated clothing, gloves, footwear, headwear, and compatible layers for employees working in coolers, walk-in freezers, refrigerated warehouses, loading areas, and cold-chain facilities.
Workers who remain inside a freezer may need different insulation and coverage than employees moving between refrigerated rooms, docks, vehicles, and ambient areas. Review mobility, grip, dexterity, traction, waterproofing, visibility, and compatibility with required head, hand, foot, and respiratory protection.
Selection note: A garment’s temperature claim is not a rating for the worker’s complete clothing system. Suitability depends on the verified product specifications, layering, fit, task, exposure duration, environmental conditions, and the employer’s cold-stress assessment. Cryogenic PPE is specialized equipment and is not interchangeable with ordinary freezer workwear.
